Hundreds of millions have crossed its threshold. Sometimes with laughter and smiles stretching from ear to ear; sometimes with tears in their eyes; and sometimes with fear of what their destination might bring.
From its earliest days, scholars and artists across the world have praised it in all its forms, while poets gave it fanciful names as they poured their longing into their notebooks. The smoky one, the coal-burner, the iron horse, the arrow, and many more names besides were written for it. And the world embraced it, with all its peculiarities.
And so, we too came to love trains with all the joys and sorrows it carries in its iron belly. Having also formed a close bond with the people of the Railway Museum of Thessaloniki, we set our imagination running full steam ahead, creating images of the train and the passenger.
Our companion in this adventure was our dear friend Natali Tsiliakidou, who agreed to pose for this group project. And so, on a sunny Saturday, the museum gates opened wide for us once again, with its president, Mr Kostas Pataras, warmly welcoming us.
