Some time ago, we visited the medieval Bogomil cemetery in Nea Chalkidona, near Thessaloniki. You can read its history in an earlier article we wrote, but this place kept calling us back. We wanted to photograph it differently this time. Dimosthenis, in particular, had long imagined a gothic photoshoot there, inspired by the round stone crosses, which, in his mind, evoked the dark music of his beloved Black Sabbath. Time passed but when it worked in our favor we made the call for a portrait photoshoot with our good friend Natali Tsiliakidou who gave us exactly what we needed to breath life to this this project.
Soula and Georgia worked with Natali on the styling and props, while the rest of us offered whatever each could in their own way. Truth be told, we love projects like this, because they push us beyond our usual limits and encourage us to try new things. Do we still have a great deal of work ahead of us, both organisationally and photographically? Certainly. But the magic of learning is what keeps things interesting. Our excitement grew as the day approached, and we were all hoping for a dull, overcast sky, though the weather did not grant us that favour. Still, we gave it our all.
