Pantelis Ainalis was born in Katerini, but studied and grew up in Thessaloniki. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering, but his love for photography began at the age of sixteen, when he managed to take a long-exposure photograph.

Since then, his involvement with photography has passed through many different genres, both at amateur and professional level.

When he began in the age of film, there were no photography schools in Thessaloniki, only the educational seminars of NELE, where he learned the basics of photography. His constant contact with professionals in the field, however, gave him valuable knowledge in fashion photography, weddings and baptisms, artistic events, sports and political photojournalism, still life, and more.

He was among the first to become involved with digital photography, which at that time was just taking its first hesitant steps.

Due to professional and family obligations, he did not follow the transition into the digital era, though he joined it a decade later, when he returned to Katerini.

Since then, his contact with photography has been at an amateur level. He is a member of active photography groups and has taken part in many group photography exhibitions, as well as two solo exhibitions.
